Locating micro-credentials within the education, training, and world of work ecosystems helps to map and navigate the micro-credential ecosystem. We need to understand how the education, training, and work ecosystems inform and shape the packaging and stacking of learning, how learning can be accumulated, and how learning can be recognised and credentialed. This requires us to differentiate the forms of learning and how we quality assure and credential these. This means differentiating formal, non-formal, and informal learning. And considering how we approach these forms of learning and whether all these forms need to be credentialed in some form. The question then is how we can relate these different forms of learning to each other and whether all these forms of learning need to be credit bearing within national qualification frameworks. We can also ask how individuals can showcase these various forms of learning for different purposes and verify these where required.
